Our son is born in Ethiopia, and was adopted by us, when he was just 11 months old.
That in itself is a fairytale of sorts, that deserves to be told in another time and place -
but he is the sunshine of my life.
And of course he deserves his very own christmas heart.

Some people have asked me, if I could post some more hearts with 'unusual' fringes, and here are
two of my favourite varieties: With just a few angles to the fringes, you end up with these fantastic
star-like patterns. And I thougt they went well with just some polka dots and plain color.

Your project today is a star for your tree, naturally! This one is made from three or four 'hearts' -
which they aren't exactly, as you will see - you glue together, to form a starry paper hat, and it does
look kind of neat, I think.... I like my decorations flimsy and light, and I think some of the metal top ornaments are a bit too heavy sometimes.

I never made this before, so in my little tutorial on page one, it says make four of the pointy hearts -
but actually, as I found out today, that two or three make a nice star as well, depending on how you
glue them together. Leave all the points free of glue, and fluff them a bit, to bring out the 'paper-ness'
of the finished star.
These too are really easy to make - but you'll need some quick drying glue and a steady hand to glue
them onto the string. I have made the template with six hearts in all, that is three per string, but print
a bundle and make them with four or five folded hearts per string, that would look even greater.
This design too has a front (page one) and a back (page two) just like the trees the other day.
Do like this: Set your printer to print only page one, and make your number of prints. Turn them
over in the printer tray, and repeat - this time printing only page two. Have fun!

My maternal grandmother was very, very fond of doilies. They adorned every surface of her house -
in all the nice places, where such things as candlesticks and porcelain figurines were on display.
She would simply not place a decorative object anywhere, and not rest it on a doily of appropriate
size. They were also in between every one of the fine plates, the ones that came out for family visits.
My sister and I have inherited most of them, and I have to admit that they are in some box somewhere,
for two reasons: one is, that I have no idea what to do with them, because (and here is reason number
two), I also have such veneration for them - as she made most every one of them herself. With a tiny crochet hook, in the thinnest silky white yarn. And then they were starched with sugar and pressed flat
later on - and already in our childhood, her eyesight was no longer strong enough for these delicacies,
so she took to crocheting towels and napkins and acrylic ponchos in mad colors, for my sister and I.
She lived to be 97, and the last years she so missed her TV and her handywork, since the eyes and
ears couldn't keep up.
When I think of doilies, I think of her, managing a farm household, with pigs, chickens, a husband
and three children and - still - making time to make
something like that.
And have special tableware.
When I was younger, I didn't quite have the appreciation for such things, but now I use those little
towels all the time. I'll probably even get around to using the doilies as well, some day.
I wonder what happned to the ponchos?

You simply cut the letters, fold them and glue them carefully onto any kind of nice looking string or
twine, for example something like this.
The rest is up to you. A nice little garland for the door, saying 'Welcome' or 'F*** off' - or a very
loooong one for the tree or the mantlepiece with the full lyrics of 'Come All Ye Faithful'. Or...?

These are a few of my geraniums - I have 19 different ones, wich is a little mad, and rather a lot
of work sometimes - but when they all bloom, as they do most of the summer, in all these intense
red and pink hues, it is worth it, of course.
I wanted to make a little series of flower hearts, with old fashioned 'grannys pajamas'-like
floral prints on them. I like old fashioned, slightly corny flowers, like geraniums and dahlias.

I bet there are lots of you out there, that is going to some kind of christmas party today. I know I am.
I am trying to get enthusiastic about it. It has been a very exhausting week, and my dream scenario for
this saturday evening would be lying on the sofa, watching 'the Wire' and eating chocolate - wearing something shapeless and wooly.
As opposed to eating the Big Danish Christmas Party Buffet, wearing something tight with heels.
In fact one ought to wear a sweatsuit to these things, because you eat so much food (and yes, some
of it is really delicious. I am mainly a pickled herring and schnapps girl, myself. How about you?)
and you drink too much, making the heels a veritable staggering danger.
But: I will be a trooper and give it my very, very best.
After a couple of herrings (with onion and sour cream, mmmm) and a few cold ones, I will probably
feel altogether more at ease.
And I do have a very comfortable pair of quite glam patent leater flats......
And my sequin butterfly. Done.
I have made a disco heart for all those of you who are trying to get in the mood, like myself.

Yesterday was such a nice day, and I ended it with a fun and totally improvised pizza dinner with
a whole bunch of great people - in all ages! The older kids made hearts in abundance, and the
sweet lady of the house took a particular fancy to my use of Wunderbaums - so todays heart is a

The Wunderbaum is a crazy, kitschy thing, to most of us - but it has an adorable sort of 'generic tree'-
outline, and I frequently buy them as silly gifts.

This needs to be a very slow and low key day. No fuss. Sit down - and stay down. Please.
Why don't you make yourself some of these?
It gets no easier than this, and they are great to make for even very small kids.
But they make such a pretty shape - and I mean to hang mine in almost invisible thread.
There are no handles in the template, but you could make some from ribbon, glossy pink, perhaps..?
I made these, lying on the floor, sorrounded by two a-bit-more-than-two-year-olds, whomping
each other with the BRIO train set. Quite cosy, actually, as they were not whomping constantly.
In between whompings, they smeared themselves with tangerines and sometimes they just played.
Nice 'n easy.
My husband is a bit of a math wiz (in my eyes, at least), and I asked him how many ways the twelve
'dots' can actually be combined - from one print, of course. He promptly blurted out: "Twelve, you said... Well, let me see - that must be about some forty thousand combinations".
This he promptly withdrew a moment later. Then he started calculating again - and then he and our
little train wrecker went to the zoo. So your guess is as good as mine.

Today is (yet another) a rainy and grey day here in Cph., and I feel in the mood for some rather
springlike birds. Don't ask me what kind they are, as I am no ornithologist.
They might be robins, though, come to think of it...? Nope.
Just googled robins, and they look completely different.
But when you have a garden - as we do, in our little place just outside the city - birds are a very large
part of the winter scenery. They are somehow the garden flowers of wintertime, and I can watch them
forever. We don't go out there as much in the winter, but when we do, we feed them excessively with
peanuts, sunflower seeds and other luxuries.
And then you just sit very, very quietly inside and watch them gobble away.
Very relaxing.
And birds are important on christmas trees, for more animistic reasons than christian ones.
